Kickboxing Re-Imagined

This isn’t the “kickboxing” you see at any fitness gym. Those classes are “Fitness Kickboxing” and are nothing more than glorified aerobics classes. You might as well be in Richard Simmons, Sweatin to the Oldies or Billy Banks’ Taebo class.

Instead, this program is authentic Dutch Kickboxing. The focus is on learning to strike correctly, efficiently, and powerfully with combinations of punches, kicks, elbows, and knees. You will also learn setups, feints, footwork, head movement, counters, and blocks. But… you will also get in the best shape of your life, even more so than with the gym or fitness centers pretend kickboxing. Plus, our instructor is a black belt in Dutch Kickboxing.

A devastating Kickboxing Program that will prepare you for any situation

As intense as professional kickboxing fights can be, the fighters are still participating in a sport bound by rules and a referee. There are no groin strikes allowed, and no striking to the back of the head. The eyes and throat are off-limits. Most kickboxing matches consist of timed rounds with a rest period in between.

In the real world, there are no rules, and in a real fight, you can't call a "time-out," take a break, or throw in the towel. That's why our Kickboxing Program has none of these restrictions. You'll learn to fight using any and all possible techniques, no matter how brutal. There are no "illegal moves" in our Kickboxing Program. We'll also mentally prepare you for the possibility of having to fight for as long as it takes to overcome your attacker (or attackers) and end the threat.

Our kickboxing class consists of a warm-up period followed by exercises to build strength and endurance, various drills, and practicing techniques to develop proper form and power. Training is done with boxing gloves, kicking shields, focus pads, and heavy bags. Then there is a period to help you apply the techniques you have learned in a realistic manner. This is followed by a cool-down period to help you recover from the intense workout.

Frequently Asked Questions About our Kickboxing program

Answer: Not at Auburn Krav Maga! You are in our kickboxing class to learn, not to be someone’s punching bag. We have no room (or tolerance) for inflated egos. That’s the easiest way for someone to get hurt. Anybody who attempted to hurt another member or beat someone up would quickly be escorted out of the facility. In addition, we take every precaution available to ensure your safety.

Answer: Sort of. Kickboxing — any Kickboxing other than Fitness Kickboxing — is a sport, just like Jiu Jitsu, MMA, Judo, Karate, etc. Sports have rules, referees, points, sportsmanship, fair play, weight classes, and experience levels. Self-defense does not. In addition, Kickboxing (like Jiu Jitsu, MMA, etc.) is not a self-defense system like Krav Maga.

However, Kickboxing does have applications for self-defense. If you ever need to defend yourself, you will most likely need to strike in some form or fashion. Kickboxing would give you the skill-set to do that effectively. BUT… there are also limitations. Kickboxing itself won’t work if the attacker has a gun or knife (98% do) and is useless in ground fighting. Kickboxing would be great to supplement your self-defense abilities, but if you want a pure self-defense system, that would be Krav Maga. If you want to learn how to strike efficiently and powerfully, get in the best shape of your life, lose weight, improve physical fitness, decrease stress, and just have fun, our Kickboxing Program is a great way to do it.

Answer: No. Even an amateur fighter requires a significant amount of exclusive time from their trainer. Our focus is and will always be on giving all our students the skill-set they need to defend themselves if faced with a violent attack. Although we do offer a Kickboxing program, it is simply not the type of program that affords the individual time and attention required to train an aspiring sport fighter.

Our Members Love It - Their Words Not Ours:

The instruction here is phenomenal. Truly a world class gym with a world class instructor. LD is a great guy who genuinely cares about the classes he teaches and the individuals in those classes. The atmosphere here is one that is highly approachable and welcoming while at the same time maintaining a professional quality. If you enroll in this school, you will be surrounded by friendly people who are invested in each other's success. I really cannot recommend this school enough!

Matthew W.

I started attending classes in September because I wanted to try something I’d never done before, meet new people, and gain skills that could protect me in the future. What I found was a group of people who welcomed me with open arms, despite having no prior experience. The environment LD harbors is really special, everyone is extremely supportive, pushing others to do their best without fear of judgement. I cannot say enough positive things about my time here, it is one of the best parts of my week!
